A Brief Note

Nick Harmer from Death Cab For Cutie will be playing bass with us at Bumbershoot. Nick Rules. Nick loves the new Iron Maiden. Go Nick Go. You Rule Baby.      -Gabe, 8/15/00

P.S. from Arlie:

Our friend Nate Mendel, bass player of The Foo Fighters(and formerly of SDRE) did Juno a huge favor and played with us at our show at The Crocodile Cafe on July 22nd, 2000. We would like to thank him again here. Nate? Focus! THANK YOU!!! Playing with Nate was wonderful. Really he's just the nicest person and such an incredible musician. It was a pleasure. The show was amazingly fun. We played four new songs in the set, all of which Nate wrote the bass parts for. He kicks ass! However, his other band's schedule is non-stop busy with touring and recording for the next few months so he was only able to help out with that one show on July 22nd. A few days after the show Arlie received an email from someone in France asking if Nate was now in Juno. No. Sorry France, just a rumor.

However, the show was with the bands Welcome, Automaton Adventure Series, FCS North, Joel R.L. Phelps and Juno. It was a long night but the show sold out early and all gathered seemed excited to be there. It was also Arlie's birthday and the first show Juno had played in more than 4 months locally. If you missed the show and feel brave enough to deal with finding the show on the House of Blues website(I know strict-cheeseball situation but whatever) it will be rebroadcasting each band's set from that night sometime in the near future. Check it out. You may be psyched. Or maybe the mix will be awful. Who knows? Let us know if you find and listen to it. Email us at juno1juno@aol.com

The show was a label showcase for Pacifico Recordings. All of the above mentioned bands either have recordings already on Pacifico or soon will have something coming out. The label showcase was held during the CMJ Regional Festival hoo-ha. Who else out there thinks it was a rather dumb festival? The shows were great but the panel discussions were hilariously terrible. Did it "Change Music" as it supposedly was intended to do? Through getting bands and music industry people more info on how to use the Internet? Yawn.

Juno's suggestions: Step away from the computer. Go outside. Play. Eat some food. Go write music. Sweat. Wear your favorite shoes. Make handmade flyers for your shows. Put them up wherever you can all over town. Build a website. Write updates. Go on tour frequently. Take photos. Make friends. Play music like your life depended on it. Try experimenting with new ideas, sounds and reasons for making music. Listen to the bands Talk Talk and Lungfish. Have more sex. Use condoms. Get more rest. Drink more water. Take the stairs whenever possible. Put oil in the van. Be courteous and encouraging to others. But do not take shit from anyone. Do exactly what you think sounds right.

In other news for the update, Juno's been writing songs for an upcoming second full-length which will hopefully begin recording in late-October/early November. Arlie just got back from 15 days of sun, rainstorms, falafel, bad coffee, good friends with phat expense accounts, long walks, greasy subways, many many 4am cab rides, eternal elevator descents and ascents, lovely museums, and people-watching in NYC. Despite the rumors to the contrary he is not moving NYC. Now that he's back, the band will soon start trying out a couple of bass players inbetween playing with Nick from DCFC in preparation for the Bumbershoot show on September 4th.

Oh yeah, and the BCORE label split 7" between Juno and The Dismemberment Plan is now available through Dischord Records Direct Distribution, Southern Records Distro, and the DeSoto Records label website(www.desotorecords.com). One new song from each band! Juno side: "Non-Equivlents." Dis Plan side: "The Dismemberment Plan Gets Rich!"

That's about it for now. Email the band at juno1juno@aol.com if you have any further questions, comments or insights.

Thanks,
La Juno De La Norte Americana.
