Juno Mix it up boys. Mix it up. Once again, Juno holds true to form by not succumbing to the confines of status quo or a musical genre. In their latest release, A Future Lived In Past Tense, Juno guides their music from an eerie minimalist space rock accompanied by spoken word to a explosive guitar-filled cacophony of noise, backed with the fervid voice of Arlie Carsten, screaming out intelligent, yet often dream-like lyrics, similar to those of Roger Waters. The guitars and the many
noises that can be milked from their silvery strings are the foundation of Juno,
but many times it’s the overall rhythm that holds their songs together. This is
interesting, because they’re currently without a permanent bassist. And without
that permanent anchor, A Future Lived In Past Tense seems to be more
experimental than their previous records. There’s a uniqueness in most of the
songs that mirrors the band’s development transcending from your basic noise
rock to a more complete and sophisticated sound, whatever that means. Instead of
stagnating into something unkind and dull, Juno has progressed to something
unlike themselves. It’s a coming of age, it would seem, for the band…and the
right of passage is about to begin. –Josh Davis May 25 Juno headlines their
record release party at the Crocodile Café in Seattle. Bass duties will be split
between Nate Mendel (Foo Fighters/Sunny Day Real Estate) and Nick Harmer (Death
Cab for Cutie.) |
